Our tradition of excellence

Our rigorous jazz program builds musicianship, community, and a sense of belonging among all who participate. BHS Jazz students regularly win awards at jazz festivals, play in elite youth bands in the Bay area, and receive scholarships to the best music schools in the nation.
It’s no wonder BHS Jazz has launched some of the most celebrated jazz talent of the past three decades, including Joshua Redman, Benny Green, Ambrose Akinmusire, and countless others.

Besides funding numerous concert and festival performances each year, the money we raise makes possible our innovative programs, such as Travel Study in Cuba, JazzGirls Day, Inclusion & Equity, and Scholarships.
